We are pleased to present a new system concept in the control of lighting systems that does not require additional control wires. This system reduces installation costs, dramatically increases savings and provides for more flexibility and total control.
The Varilume Powerline Control System consists of remote addressable relays, smart digital wall switches, three phase couplers, powerline modem and software. A brief description of each is as follows:
Powerline Addressable Relay with Dimming (i.e., PLC Module)
The remote relay is a receiving device that provides remote control of a lighting load. The module is a
small and compact design that is suitable for mounting in an electrical box.
- Available in 120VAC, 277VAC or 347VAC with 2.5A configurations.
- On/Off and dimming of incandescent lamps is standard.
- On/Off operation of fluorescent lamps.
- 0-10V control for dimmable devices such as dimmable ballasts for fluorescent and HID lamps.
Powerline Wall Switch (i.e., PLC Wall Switch)
Wall switches are programmable standalone transceivers designed to be integrated into the Varilume
network. Each group, up to 6 push buttons per single gang, can be programmed to control any relay or
groups of relays on the network. Each push button may also be programmed to dim incandescent
lighting or fluorescent lighting if equipped with a 0-10V output. These switches, once programmed
will maintain their parameters in memory and can operate without a network computer. Powerline
switches may replace standard switches or be added anywhere on the powerline grid.
Powerline Modem
The Varilume powerline modem is designed to transmit and receive signals between the central PC
and the various powerline control system devices.
Three-Phase Coupler (i.e., PLC-COUPLER)
The Varilume 3-phase coupler is designed to couple the communication signals on all phases of the
power system. This allows relays to be grouped in zones even though they may not be on the same
phase on the power network.
Photocell Control
The Varilume photocell is connected to the power network and can be calibrated to read 1fc to 500fc
and transmit a signal to the transceiver for appropriate output from the powerline relay, either On/Off
or 0-10V signal to dimming ballast.
Occupancy Sensor Control
The Varilume occupancy sensor is connected to the power network (via the Multi-IO powerline
interface i.e., MIO6) and can be setup to control a single or zone of powerline relays.
Heating Relay
The heating relay is a powerline receiving and transmitting device that provides remote modulating
control of electrical baseboard heaters. The module features a small and compact design that allows it
to be installed inside the baseboard heater. Combine the heating relay with a room sensor and the
central Dimsoft software and you are now in control of your energy bills.
- Available at 10A up to 347VAC for installation inside a baseboard heater.
- Available at 25A for installation on an electrical 4 11/16” x 4 11/16” junction box.
Temperature Sensing Thermostat
The room thermostat is a powerline device that allows remote control of heating and cooling loads.
This sensor can be matched to any of the Varilume powerline heating relays or addressable powerline
relays.
Dimsoft Central Software
The central control software is a powerful software (web-capable if desired) allowing access to the
system from any computer connected to the Internet. With proper access codes a user can have
individual control lighting, heating and cooling in their individual space, be it an office or cubicle in
addition to global control from the building manager’s office.
The central software is very user friendly. It is used to setup schedules, light levels, load shed strategies, load profiles and reports in drop down menu formats and/or building graphics format. The operator interface can be either point and click mouse controlled or touch screen graphical control.
With this system you are truly in control of your energy usage. For further information, please call Varilume Lighting Inc. at 1-888-546-2599.
